Beyond Walls

Support for Family and Friends of the Incarcerated

Offered for: Men & Women

Beyond Walls is a support group ministry designed for adult family members and friends of those incarcerated. Beyond Walls is a welcoming and safe community that provides support for individuals from initial arrest, to pre-trial, throughout court hearings, sentencing, time served, and beyond release. Many times, family and friends feel alone, abandoned, confused, overwhelmed and scared. Beyond Walls provides assistance as you navigate through the significant changes in life that take place because of incarceration. At Beyond Walls you will find love and encouragement as we walk this journey with you.

We understand that every story is personal. Sharing details about your loved one’s situation is always voluntary. You are never required to discuss the circumstances of their case, and you are welcome to participate in group at your own comfort level. While this group offers care, encouragement, and support, it is not a source of legal counsel, and any legal matters should be addressed with a qualified attorney.

Helpful Things to Know

Yes. Immediate family can visit within the first 24 hours after an arrest, even outside of normal visitation hours. You will need a government-issued ID and must follow  the facility’s dress code.

Each facility has its own schedule for visitation days, times, and check-in. You will need a valid government ID (or a birth certificate for minors), and you must follow the facility’s dress code and footwear requirements. Visits can be denied if these guidelines aren’t followed. Most facilities provide individual lockers for visitors to store personal items such as jackets, hats, gloves, wallets, and purses during their visit. These lockers typically require a U.S. quarter to operate and will issue a key for your use.

Money can be deposited in person at any Alaska correctional facility. Each location has specific days and times for deposits, so it is best to check with the facility ahead of time.

All mail must be written or typed on plain paper and sent in a plain white envelope with a full return address. Items like stickers, gel ink, glitter, or anything glued are not allowed.

“Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.”
